Firstly, a comically depressing car
There's been some turmoil at my place of employment the past month. People are getting out while the getting is still good, at least for them. Unfortunately, the exodus appears to be an ongoing thing, and nobody is sure who else is going to be comfortably elsewhere next. Of course I'm a bit worried, so I brought up the question of IT being outsourced to the probable future department head. One of the more depressing things is that my biggest worry isn't losing my job, but our vendor becoming the new IT people. The vendor is a clownboat. They have a handful of good employees, but have made a laundry list of bad moves.
So I brought up the chance of us getting outsourced, along with my cohort, and we were told that they had "run the numbers and nobody does it cheaper than we do."
Well.
1) We are comically underpaid, and now it's official.
2) They've looked into this before(!). I know when that probably happened, but still...
3) When asked, the vendor we deal with doesn't even figure into things (bahahaha).
I...have more thoughts on the entire matter but probably have to wait until July 1 to expand upon them.

When I read these stories, especially when you say your company does it the cheapest, I strongly believe it comes down to company politics.
Sorry to hear this. Best wishes.
EDIT: My company is letting go of all it's retail stores across Canada and is going online only. It's not that we're not making a profit (especially my store being the flagship and personally seeing the numbers), it's that they just they do not want to manage us. Maximum profit for the least amount of work, even if that means cutting profits.
It's disgusting.

Is it bad that I kind of want this car? lol
As for the job stuff, my lost company seemed like a sinking ship full of leaky holes and a "captain" who may have been looking to abandon ship before anyone else. Tons of people leaving and the workload just being passed to others instead of hiring replacements. So I certainly can sympathize. Just keep pumping out those resumes to other positions! haha

I'm not working for an outsourcing company, I'm part of the in-house IT group for a small educational institution.
That's what makes it sad. When I got into the job, everyone told me that while the pay might suck, at least the benefits make it worthwhile. Not really; every person who works in private industry in my field who I talk to gets more vacation, a better pension, better healthcare, and better severance in the case of layoffs. All my benefits have gone down the toilet, and now apparently the big trump card, the guaranteed pension, is no longer applicable.
The best part; I love my job, especially come July 1.

The story here is most likely different. Let's just say some legal entanglements have led to this exodus. Widely varying ones, to say a little. I really don't want to say more because we've been in the news quite a bit as of late.
We're not getting dumped on, we've been dumped on since day one of me working here (and before). My hope is that things actually improve around here.

If that thing didn't have Ferrari badges and wasn't red, it would be awesome.

That is awful. Especially when the job's benefits get propped up on a pedestal and then it's much less, well, beneficial than previously told. Have you been at your current workplace for very long?
I've only been at my current place of work for a few months and as a result my severance package is in the low hundreds of dollars. A few of my co-workers have been there for well over 5 years and their severance is only $100-$200 more than mine.
In the event they do let you go, hopefully the severance package will be somewhat beneficial.
